Spain and the Netherlands, the main destination markets for Peruvian pitahaya

In the first quarter of 2024, Peru exported 138 tons of fresh pitahaya for US$392,391. This is 178% and 287% more volume and value, respectively than the 50 tons and US$101,329 achieved in the same period of the previous year.

The average price of pitahaya has also experienced a significant increase, growing by 39%, from US$2.04 per kilogram in the first quarter of 2023 to US$2.85 in the same period of 2024. This increase reflects the growing value of Peruvian pitahaya in the international market.

Spain and the Netherlands have established themselves as the main markets for Peruvian pitahaya, absorbing 53.9% and 42.0% of the total exported, respectively. Exports to Spain amounted to $211,342 and had an average price of $2.8 per kg, while exports to the Netherlands totaled $164,843 at an average price of $3.0 per kg.

Canada, Costa Rica, and Italy were also important destinations for Peruvian pitahaya, although to a lesser extent, accounting for 2.6%, 0.9%, and 0.3% of exports, respectively. These markets demonstrate the diversification and global acceptance of the Peruvian product, highlighting its presence in different regions of the world.
