The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) inspected all cross-border commercial vehicles at the Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge in El Paso from Mexico from April 27 through May 4. The disruption caused up to 8 hour wait times, as normal wait times are approximately 45 minutes.
Much of the U.S. experienced a brief period of tranquil weather, with warmth arriving in the West and cool conditions spreading over much of the central and eastern U.S. In the West, a warming trend and dry conditions in the Pacific Coast States promoted fieldwork. Scattered frost and freeze advisories effected areas from eastern Idaho to northwestern New Mexico. Showers are expected to develop across central and southern sections of the Rockies and High Plains, with rain becoming heavier early next week, spreading into the middle and lower Mississippi Valley and the Gulf Coast States. In the South, a significant outbreak of severe weather—featuring wind damage, large hail, and isolated tornadoes— occurred overnight from Kentucky and Tennessee into the Carolinas.
Avocado demand from California and Mexico is slow, with deals made on 70s and 84s. Shippers continue to offer supplies at competitive prices to move additional supplies. Movement from Mexico crossings through Texas is expected to decrease. Trading is slow. Prices of conventional product are lower, organic is generally unchanged.
