Chili price stabilization in Indonesia through yield allocation

The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has addressed the issue of rising chili prices, attributing it to distribution constraints and proposing a solution through the allocation of yields from surplus to deficit areas. Andi Muhammad Idil Fitri, Director of Vegetables and Drug Plants at the Directorate General of Horticulture, emphasized the necessity of regions with excess chili commodities to distribute their harvests to those in need.

This strategy aims to mitigate distribution challenges and ensure a steady supply of chilies across Indonesia. Fitri highlighted the critical role of mobility and the need for facilitation in the distribution process to ensure that chilies reach deficit regions effectively. Currently, chili production centers are predominantly located in Java, with significant contributions from East Java, Central Java, and West Java. However, areas like Lampung Province face production deficits despite being recognized as chili center areas. To promote equitable chili cultivation and stabilize prices, initiatives such as the inflation program in Kalimantan have been introduced, targeting the expansion of chili cultivation to areas beyond traditional centers.
